Taking the Constitution to the People - Angelos North Secondary School in Pretoria North

On Monday, 14 April 2025, Mr. Patrick Motsepe, the Inclusive Society Institute’s School Project Coordinator for Gauteng Province, led an engaging and insightful workshop for the Grade 11 learners of Angelos North Secondary School.

The session aimed to deepen students' understanding of South Africa’s foundational legal framework — the Constitution. More than just a textbook overview, the interactive workshop brought the Constitution to life by exploring its historical context, structure, and key elements such as the Preamble and the National Symbols, including the National Anthem and the Flag.

Seamlessly aligned with the Life Orientation and History curricula, the workshop offered a meaningful opportunity to broaden learners’ knowledge and enhance their critical thinking skills. As the session unfolded, learners became increasingly involved — asking thoughtful questions, offering insightful perspectives, and engaging in rich dialogue around the topics discussed.

Mr. Motsepe guided these discussions, creating a space where every student felt heard and empowered to express their views. By the end of the workshop, the learners walked away with a deeper appreciation of their constitutional rights, the limitations of those rights, and their responsibilities as active young citizens.

To conclude the session, learners completed a survey to assess their grasp and application of the workshop’s key themes — a final step in reinforcing the valuable lessons shared during this impactful learning experience.
