Statistic South Africa hosted a stakeholder information sharing workshop on Monday, 31 October 2022, on the upcoming Income and Expenditure Survey (IES) 2022/23 which will be in the field from November 2022 to November 2023.
The IES is a household-base sample survey that collects information on all acquisitions, consumption, spending, and income earned of households living in South Africa.
The Inclusive Society Institute, who participated in the workshop, supports the survey, especially since the last such survey was conducted in 2015. The institute is of the opinion that it is long overdue in that the economic landscape has changed considerably since then and, given the constrained economic environment the country finds itself in, it is now urgent to get a more comprehensive view on issues such as inequality, levels of debt, growth potential, etcetera, all of which could be empirically examined through such updated information.
