Inclusive Society Institute meets Germany’s Friedrich Ebert Stiftung and Social Democratic Party

The CEO of the Inclusive Society Institute (ISI), Daryl Swanepoel, at the invitation of the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, travelled to Germany from 14 – 18 October 2019, with a delegation led by ANC Treasurer General, Paul Mashatile. The visit presented an ideal opportunity for the introduction of the institute to the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) and the German Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Both the FES and SDP were of the view that the politically aligned foundations of Germany played an important role in supporting and promoting multiparty democracy, the development of public policy and the engagement of civil society in the political discourse of the country. The idea of setting up such an institute in South Africa that would promote progressive, social and national democratic values was to be welcomed.

To advance the aim of creating a progressive and just world, international cooperation between likeminded organisations was important. To this end, the FES, SDP and ISI agreed to further explore avenues and means of cooperation.
