Inclusive Society Institute attends Presidential Social Sector Summit


The Chief Executive Officer of the Inclusive Society Institute, Mr Daryl Swanepoel, represented the Institute at the Presidential Social Sector Summit that was held at Birchwood Hotel and Conference Centre in Ekurhuleni in Gauteng from 4 to 5 August 2022.


The purpose of the summit was to consult civil society on the Social Compact that was proposed by President Ramaphosa during the State of the Nation address earlier this year.


The summit was addressed by, amongst others, President Ramaphosa, Minister of Social Development, Hon. Lindiwe Zulu, and Minister of Employment and Labour, Hon. Thulas Nxesi. Presentations were also made by Statistics South Africa and the Nedlac Community Constituency.


Topics that came under discussion included:


  • Sustainable strategies to respond to social-ills and contemporary issues

  • The state of the social sector in South Africa and resource mobilisation

  • A partnership between civil society and the State

  • A South African response to poverty and unemployment

  • International lessons on sustainable development and partnerships

  • The impact of Covid-19 on the social sector
